Arrested at UCLA’s
Violent, Pro-Hamas Riots
JACOB ALEXANDER
A total of 249 individuals were arrested during the violent pro-Hamas riots that broke out at the illegal encampment on the UCLA campus in May 2024.
Jacob Alexander is one of the students whom the UCLA Police arrested. He was charged with Remain At Scene Of Riot/Etc.
According to police reports from the day of the riots, incidents included assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, grand theft, unlawful use of tear gas, vehicle theft, and making criminal threats with intent to terrorize, among other offenses.
The encampment left behind a trail of crude vandalism, including the defacement of fountains, spray-painted walkways, tampering with fire safety systems, destruction of campus furniture, stripping electrical equipment for wire, and the wrecking of parked vehicles.
Additionally, at least six University of California Police Department personnel and other safety officers were injured during confrontations with protesters. One person sustained a head injury, according to Campus Safety Officer, Rick Braziel.
In July of 2025, a Department of Justice investigation found that UCLA violated federal civil rights laws by letting antisemitic hostility spiral out of control on campus. AAG Harmeet Dhillon said that UCLA acted “with deliberate indifference in creating a hostile educational environment for Jewish and Israeli students.”
